The Tubes are a modular installation that is continuously growing and changing from showing to showing.
I install them site specifically, while intuitively arranging my materials. Thereby creating very different works with very different associations each time. Personally, I never know exactly what the work will be when I start the installation process.
This version, the one I like to call Breath, is the first motorised version that I showed. It is animated though one string that pulls up and down. And within the knot of material that one string splinters off to multiple points throughout the structure, creating an effect that looks like the knot is breathing.
I have further highlighted this effect through the timing of the movement.
Most of the people I had the pleasure of talking to about this work, intuitively recognized it as some type of creature. Most notably among the many associations I had the pleasure of hearing about was a spider. Which I really enjoyed as spiders are in a way textiles artist obsessed with string same as me.
